Angel Beats takes place in a school acting as a purgatory. All the students here are either 1) dead or 2) a non-human. All those students who died ended up joining the SSS (standing for Shinda Sekai Sensen which i do believe it meant Afterlife Battle Front or something like that), where the leader Yuri leads them to rebel against "god." They rebel because "god" made them suffer cruel fates. Our main character, Otonashi, ends up joining the SSS and helps with their activities even though he has no memories of this past. The Student Council President, however, fights against them and they end up calling her Tenshi which is Angel in Japanese. Now the SSS member using many different weapons varying from pistols and machine guns to all the way to Halberds, have to fight against Tenshi who has supernatural powers "granted by god."

OH MY GOSH! I LOVE THIS ANIME <3 :3
It was so amazing. I really like the animation style and the storyline is unique. I mean really... was being set in a purgatory where all the characters are already dead? TOTALLY UNIQUE! Also the past to the characters were interesting. One of my favorite things were the songs in this anime. The opening, the ending, GirlDeMo's songs, inserts song.... I LOVED THEM ALL :D
Angel Beats DOES have a manga, called Angel Beats - Heaven's Door, which is set way before the anime. Its about Yuri and Hinata creating the SSS. It comes out irregularly so keep checking the manga sites ;)
